Carpark publishing is an arm of Carpark Records.
Carpark Records is an independent record label based in Washington, D.C. Established in 1999, the label began in New York City as an outlet for up-and-coming IDM, ambient, and experimental sounds by time-tested electronic acts including Kid606 and Casino Versus Japan. Moving to D.C. in 2005 led to releases made by Charm City artists Beach House and Dan Deacon, bringing new attention to the Carpark roster. Later, the 2009 "Blessa" single from the genre-defying Toro Y Moi signaled the next chapter in Carpark's history. The label continued to grow and released acclaimed albums by rock bands like Cloud Nothings and Speedy Ortiz. Holding on to the label's love for dynamic electronic music, Carpark released albums from Sklyar Spence (formerly Saint Pepsi) and Young Magic. Now, the label continues to work with exciting, genre-bending bands across the world such as Palm, Dent May, and The Beths.
Over the years, Carpark has expanded into a larger family of imprint labels and offshoots. Chaz Bear, of Toro y Moi, founded Company Records, an art collective and imprint label with Carpark, hosting artists Astronauts, etc, Tanukichan, and more. Sadie Dupuis, of Speedy Ortiz, is a founder of imprint label Wax Nine which currently has Melkbelly and Johanna Warren on its roster. Acute Records specialized in post-punk reissues of artists like Glenn Branca and Method Actors. Paw Tracks was founded by the members of Animal Collective along with Carpark, and released work by Animal Collective themselves, their solo endeavors like Panda Bear, Avey Tare and releases from artists like Ariel Pink.
